Gush Etzion Foundation

Bat Ayin

Established in 1989, Bat Ayin is a community of religious families from non-religious backgrounds (ba’alei teshuva), representing a variety of Zionistic religious affiliation (Breslev, Chabad, Rav Kook) and creating a unique social and spiritual environment. Residents include artists and artisans, carpenters, farmers, scribes, manual workers, etc.

The community is home to 175 youngsters aged 12-18. The particular life circumstances of their families and the socio-economic level that is lower than the Gush Etzion average contribute to phenomena that we encounter in our work with the youngsters and their parents. At present, 72% of the youth are enrolled in educational frameworks; however, 18% are not. Thirty-five youngsters are considered at-risk youth.
